在生產鑽石的南非，最近怪事連連，一大批未經切割的鑽石失蹤了，而且謀殺案頻發。這些異常現象引起了英國當局的高度重視，於是007（肖恩•康納利 Sean Connery 飾）來到了南非。007以鑽石批發商的名義展開了一系列的調查，發現一切原來都是他的死對頭魔鬼黨的首領艾納斯 （查爾斯•格雷Charles Gray 飾）在背後操縱的，而艾納斯追求的並不是只是金錢，而是企圖利用這些鑽石製造最具殺傷力的鐳射衛星裝置，用以達到自己邪惡的目的。於是，007在美麗的邦女郎坎絲（吉爾•聖約翰 Jill St. John 飾）的幫助開始了粉碎這個陰謀的行動！
