這版令人大開眼界的《麥克白》之所以大獲成功，是因為它讓你看到了那些本來在腦海裡的驚悚圖像。它以斯大林作比，把重點放在了暴君心理研究上，認為他們殘暴的根源是安全感的缺乏而非道德上的罪孽感。它大量加強獨白的戲劇化程度，受益最多的是麥克白和夫人二人的互動，受益最少的是女巫的戲份。
